Thread Milling: Single & Multi-Flute Replaceable Insert Tools
Our Standard Weldon Shanks and Standard V-Flange Tool Shanks have two unique through-coolant systems. The standard version dispenses coolant between the flutes covering the entire flute length. The High Pressure (HP) tool style includes tool redesigned to optimize high pressure coolant. This new design includes wedges and a tool shank capable of directing coolant into the cutting tool interface with the workpiece, rather than between the flutes. In addition, these tools are modified to accept face milling applications. The pockets are modified to accept a different insert locating system and coolant is also directed to the bottom of the insert. Bottom line? We've got you covered - literally. Our Single Flute Replaceable Inset Thread Mills are an economical alternative for short run jobs. Using standard Advent inserts these tools use the same tool steel body as our larger sizes. The tools comes in Standard Form, NPT Form, and Metric. Compared to our competition, these inserts are longer providing for one pass coverage in NPT and BSP forms. Results? Shorter cycle times. Our Shell Mill Replaceable Insert Thread Mills tools have an overall length of 2.0" and fit Standard Shell Mill Adaptors. These tools also have coolant through capability and their cut length is 1.5". All Shell Mill Tools us the same insert (ATM-410A) making replacement ordering easy. In addition, these tools are modified to accept face milling applications. Consider the number of parts being made. For a large production run where cycle times are of the utmost importance, a multi-flute thread mill would be your best choice for speed and thread quality. Also consider the diameter of the thread form being cut along with the length of the form and the pitch. The tool holders in your machine should also be considered so as not to choose too large of a thread mill in relation to your holder. Keep in mind that the thread mill must fit inside the minor diameter of your thread form. In most cases the first two numbers of our tools represents the smallest thread form that it is able to cut. Always check for the cutter diameter in the catalog to ensure proper clearance. Also, note the 'Standard' and the 'Oversized' thread notations in the catalog, these will state the proper tool diameter with the insert form. This may indicate that you require the smaller tool holder so as to fit into the minor diameter...
